Résumé

Comment utiliser la maréchalerie dans la prévention et la prise en charge des fourbures endocrinopathiques Cet article présente les aspects biomécaniques et des techniques de maréchalerie utilisables préventivement, mais aussi une fois que l’animal présente une crise aiguë de fourbure endocrinienne, en insistant sur les bénéfices de l’élévation en talons et des supports de fourchette en complément du traitement médical. Les aspects théoriques mais aussi pratiques du parage et du ferrage en phase chronique sont ensuite abordés avec pour objectifs de stabiliser la phalange distale dans la boite cornée, de contrôler la douleur du cheval et de stimuler la pousse de la corne. Différents cas de figures sont abordés ainsi que les pronostics associés.

Abstract

This article presents biomechanical aspects and farriery techniques that can be used preventively, but also once the animal presents an acute episode of endocrinopathic laminitis, emphasizing the benefits of heel elevation and frog supports in addition to medical treatment. The theoretical and practical aspects of trimming and shoeing in the chronic phase are then discussed with the aim of stabilizing the distal phalanx in the foot, controlling the horse’s pain and stimulating the growth of the horn. Different scenarios are discussed as well as the associated prognoses.
