Résumé

Un avortement dans un élevage ou chez un particulier peut avoir un impact sanitaire et financier non négligeable. Il est donc important de tenter de déterminer la cause de l’avortement ou tout du moins de confirmer ou d’infirmer les causes infectieuses les plus contagieuses. Ainsi, une autopsie du fœtus et de ses annexes dans une structure dédiée est fortement recommandée. Par ailleurs, avoir les résultats de l’examen nécropsique accompagnés des résultats d’examens virologique, bactériologique, fongique et parfois histologique apporteront au vétérinaire traitant un complément d’informations nécessaire pour le suivi gynécologique de la jument, afin que celle-ci puisse être à nouveau saillie dans de bonnes conditions.

Abstract

An abortion on a breeding farm or in a private home can have a significant health and financial impact. It is therefore important to try to determine the cause of the abortion, or at least to confirm or eliminate the most contagious infectious causes. An autopsy of the fetus and its fetal membranes in a specific laboratory is strongly recommended. In addition, the results of the necropsy examination, together with the results of virological, bacteriological, fungal and sometimes histological examinations, will provide the attending veterinarian with the additional information required for gynecological follow-up of the mare, so that she can be covered again under the best possible conditions.
